Ilha da Imaginação

January 21, 2021

Ilha da Imaginação* is a project approved by the Ministry of Tourism, Law of Incentive to Culture and sponsored by SPIC Brasil since 2019, which offers free reading and animation workshops and courses for young people from 8 to 17 years old in São Simão (GO) and surroundings.

With an investment of approximately R$ 3 million, 110 students participate in training courses and more than 12,000 people have already participated in the traveling workshops. From the beginning of the project, in 2019, until the end of 2020, 5 municipalities were impacted by the action, totaling 43 participating schools.

Some of the short films produced by students of the project were selected in major festivals and film shows throughout the country. Among them are the short films A Cidade Imortal, Star Pigs, Renascida das Águas and Pig Brothers. All of them were selected by renowned events such as the o Festival de Cinema Curta Pinhais (PR), Cartoon Club in Italy, Mostra de Cinema Infantil de Florianópolis (SC) and even the Cultural Animation Film Festival in Hawaii.
In 2020, because of the pandemic, the routine was adapted to the digital environment, with video classes and live streamings. Virtual activities count as presence and participation. Pedagogical and administrative teams control student participation through a report. Thus, they get in touch with each student if they fail to deliver any activity, so that they can understand what the difficulties were. This also allows the education system to be improved.

The platform used in virtual classes is Google Classroom. It can be used by computer or smartphone. The students attend classes directly from the platform, without having to use their mobile internet packs.

In addition, 2 groups were created on WhatsApp: one in which students can ask questions about virtual classes, consult activities and delivery dates; and another exclusive for sending activities – essential for those who do not have a good internet connection.

Now in 2021 the program enters its third edition, still online and with many new features, and maintains its mission of providing training courses and workshops on reading and animation for children and young people aged 8 to 17 in São Simão (GO) and region.
